I am a teenage web developer entrepreneur and from Glasgow, Scotland, UK. From the age of 10 I have had a serious interest in the Internet. I started by developing a small web page in my broadband hosting space using a website builder. Over the next two years I learned how the internet worked and how to develop websites using only code. After learning how code HTML from scratch I started looking at learning how to make bigger and better websites. I decided to start learning PHP, a language widely used over the internet to allow developers to make rich, functional websites with dynamic content and many interactive features. In the following years I learned much about coding in PHP and can now produce highly scalable applications which totally revolve around users and what proves functional and useful to them. Over the past year I have started to make far larger web applications.
The first of these was a website for a karate club, using PHP; I coded a basic content management system which allowed the instructors to edit the information through the website, eliminating any need for the often tedious and sometimes confusing task of modifying files. This was my first experience of coding a PHP system to deliver content to many users at once. This was a steep learning curve for me as it taught me how making this easier for the user is the top priority of any system I was to develop. The next major project I was to take part in was a project for the Escouts: Community. The applications we’re currently building are a hosting/order system, a search engine, an awards system, a helpdesk and a server status site. Under the excellent guidance of Richard Willars I have been a part of the Escouts systems team for just over 6 months. This project will eventually reach over 3,000 users, so it has been a great learning experience for me.
I am now in the process of establishing two new communities. Ya-Tube, a social network style community focussed on local bands and independent film makers.
The next project I am particularly excited about. “WhoKnows?”, a community to allow people to revise and to share materials for study. The main part of the site will be an interactive forum where people can ask questions in subject areas and have other contribute advice and solutions. When trying to revise for my exams I found internet resources lacking, hopefully “WhoKnows?” Will become a leader in online collaboration!
Thanks for visiting my website; I hope you came across something useful to you. As always I would love to hear from you!
